Dr. Werner was raised in the San Fernando Valley, and attended Harvard High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. Following a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at California Animal Hospital, Dr. Werner was accepted to the residency program in veterinary dermatology at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Werner passed his boards to become a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1991, and has accepted referral cases in Los Angeles since that time. Dr. Werner sees referral cases in Los Angeles and in Reno, Nevada. In addition to giving numerous lectures throughout the United States and in Canada, Dr. Werner has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is the author of several book chapters, and most recently was co-editor of the dermatology section in the latest edition of the 5-Minute Veterinary Consulttextbook. He has been named editor of the dermatology section for the next edition, and will be co-editor of the new edition of the clinical companion for this textbook as well.
